The reporter learned from the relevant departments that according to a special survey conducted by the Ministry of Education in 2002, from 1992 to 2001, the average height of urban men and girls in China increased by 6.2 cm and 4.8 cm, and the height of rural men and girls increased by 7.5 cm and 6.1 cm respectively. A recent survey in 2005 showed that from 1995 to 2005, the height of children and adolescents aged 3 to 18 years old in China increased by an average of about 3 centimeters in each age group.
Experts pointed out that the child is constantly growing, but the speed of the desks and chairs is difficult to keep up, so the phenomenon of students "high and low desks" is becoming more and more common. At the same time, the average height difference of individual students increases, which also causes the difficulty of unifying the height of desks and chairs in schools. According to the survey data, the average height difference of students in 2001 was 37 cm, an increase of 12 cm compared with 1992, so the phenomenon of "tall short table" and "short high table" exists in large numbers.
It is understood that in 2002, the Ministry of Education announced and officially implemented the new standards for primary and secondary school desks and chairs. In the new standard, there are 10 types of desks and chairs, and the highest desktop height is 760 mm. At present, the desks and chairs of each primary and secondary school are basically updated and purchased by each school according to its needs. In the survey, the person in charge of many schools said that the quality of adjustable height tables and chairs is unstable, and the purchase of fixed height tables and chairs can reduce the damage rate.
